Trachyceras hispanicum was named by von Mojsisovics (1881). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mora d'Ebre, which is in a Longobardian marine marl in Spain.
It was recombined as Protrachyceras hispanicum by Parnes et al. (1985), Parnes (1986).
