Tompophiceras was named by Popov (1961) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Indu-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Xenodiscidae by Tozer (1994) and Korn (2006).
