Taxonomy
Deussenia californiana was named by Squires and Saul (2000). Its type specimen is LACMIP 12718 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CSUN loc. 153, which is in a Campanian/Campanian submarine fan horizon in the Tuna Canyon Formation of California.
