Deussenia pacificana was named by Squires and Saul (2000). Its type specimen is CASG 61598.01 [ex Stanford University 30031] and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CASG loc. 61598, Dip Creek, Lake Nacimiento, which is in a Maastrichtian/Paleocene marine horizon in California.
