Ammodiscus cretaceus was named by Reuss (1845) [Original name: Operculina cretacea (Reuss, 1845)]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is Yes, a test, and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Ammodiscus.

A. E. Reuss 1845This 0.5-1.5 '' large, circular or broadly elliptical species is the O. incerta D'Orb. from the tertiary sands of Baden near Vienna; only it's even thinner. 10-15 very narrow and not very convex spiral passageways narrower and thinner, so that the disc-shaped housing is deepened flat on both sides towards the middle. The mouth is a narrow crescent-shaped transverse gap next to the penultimate turn. The surface of the test is rough. Not often in the planning marl of Luschitz and Priesen.
