Taxonomy
Proniceras maupinense was named by Imlay and Jones (1970). Its type specimen is USNM 161186 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS Mesozoic loc. 29589, Maupin Flat, which is in a Tithonian marine horizon in California.
