Algites philippoviensis was named by Naugolnykh (2017). Its type specimen is GIN 4856/625 and is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Philippovskian quarry, which is in a Kungurian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Philippovian Formation of the Russian Federation.
