Taxonomy
Stagnestesta solitaria was named by Tasch (1961). Its type specimen is W.U. 304 and is a mold. Its type locality is Jester Creek VII, bed 3, which is in an Artinskian lacustrine lime mudstone in the Wellington Formation of Kansas. It is the type species of Stagnestesta.
