Arca tehamaensis was named by Stanton (1895). Its type specimen is USNM 23044 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Parallelodon (Gilbertwhitea) tehamaensis by Reinhart (1937); it was recombined as Nemodon tehamaensis by Anderson (1938).
