Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
S. Komura 1999Dactylacanthis gen. nov.
Type species :Dactylacanthis rara spec. nov.
Derivation :From the Greek dactylos (=finger) and acantha (=spine), in reference to the valve having fingerlike linking spines.
Diagnosis : Frustula lenticularia ad cylindrica processibus marginalibus elongatis, catenas facientia. Valvae circulares fortiter areolatae. Frons plana vel elevata, a limbo comparate nonprofundo angulis rotundis plerumque distinguenda. Areolae
loculatae vel partim pseudoloculatae, intra cribris occlusae extra foraminibus rotundis apertae. Rimoportulae infra spinas et ad marginem binatim dispositae, apodae, rima una bilabiatae. Cincturae nullae. Sporae adsunt.
The distinction of the genus from Eustephanias exists in the means of chain formation. Dactylacanthia entangles the processes to connect frustules, but Eustephanias produces chains by the interlocking system of the processes.
