A. F. Bannikov et al. 2011Body elongated, with relatively small head and long caudal peduncle. Mouth moder???? ately large; jaw teeth small and conical. Preopercle with several spines in juveniles; posteroventral spine becoming larger during ontogeny. About 40 vertebrae, about 25 of which caudal. Hypurals 3–4 fused into single plate. Supraneurals absent. First dorsal fin with 12 spines; second dorsal fin with one spine and about 12 soft rays. Anal fin originating under soft dorsal fin, but more extended; with two weak spines and about 18 soft rays. Pectoral fins rather small; pelvic fins long and situated just behind pectorals. Caudal fin forked, with 16 principal rays. Scales moderately large, bear???? ing laterally projecting spinules on most of body, but smooth on area in middle of flanks.
