Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
S. Komura 1999Stephanonycites gen. nov.
Type species : Stephanonycites variegatus spec. nov.
Derivation : From the Greek stephanos (= crown), the Greek onyx (=claw) and the Greekites (=substantial suffix) , in reference to the crown of spinous claws on the valve.
Diagnosis : Frustula heterovalvia, tympaniformia ad doliiformia, processibus cavis occlusis ad apices dactyliferis seu spathulatis catenas fascientia. Valvae dense siliceae circulares fortiter areolatae, frondibus latis limbis nonprofundis. Areolae loculatae, intra cribris occlusae extra foraminibus apertae. Rimoportulae parvae ovales, in limbo annulatim dispositae, unaquaeque spinis externs ad apicem stellinodis praeditis instructa. Cincturae nullae.
Stephanonycites is separable from preceding genera in the rimoportules allocated in a single ring and the interlocking apparatus, skillfully designed to be occluded without rimoportula.
