Taxonomy
Triphora kanakoffi was named by Willett (1948). Its type specimen is LACMIP 1072, a partial shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is LACMIP Loc. 66-1, Newport Bay, which is in a Pleistocene coastal sandstone in the Palos Verdes Sand Formation of California.
