It was reranked as the subfamily Rhinidictyinae by Xia et al. (2007); it was corrected as Rhinidictyidae by Bassler (1953), Astrova and Morozova (1956), Jiménez-Sánchez (2009), Jiménez-Sánchez et al. (2010), Ernst and Carrera (2012), Ma et al. (2015).
It was assigned to Cryptostomata by Bassler (1911), Bassler (1953); to Ptilodictyoidea by Astrova and Morozova (1956); to Ptilodictyidae by Xia et al. (2007); and to Ptilodictyina by Jiménez-Sánchez (2009), Jiménez-Sánchez et al. (2010), Ernst and Carrera (2012), Ma et al. (2015).
