Taxonomy
Drillia moesta was named by Carpenter (1863). It is extant. Its type specimen is BMNH ??? (not stated in text), a shell.

It was recombined as Pleurotoma (Drillia) moesta by Weinkauff (1876); it was recombined as Pseudomelatoma moesta by Dall (1921), Jordan (1926) and Oldroyd (1927); it was recombined as Pseudomelatoma penicillata moesta by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was synonymized subjectively with Pseudomelatoma penicillata by Hendy (2021).
