Taxonomy
Paralactarius ornatus was named by Schwarzhans (1980). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Otekaieke special school, which is in a Waitakian marine limestone in the Otekaike Limestone Formation of New Zealand.

It was recombined as Symphysanodon ornatus by Schwarzhans (2019).
