Taxonomy
Sillago maxwelli was named by Schwarzhans (2019). Its type specimen is NMNZ S.46872, an otolith, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Waihao River, south branch, which is in a Bortonian marine sandstone in New Zealand.
