Taxonomy
Platycephalus waitakiensis was named by Schwarzhans (1980). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lake Waitaki, which is in a Duntroonian marine sandstone in the Wharekuri Greensand Formation of New Zealand.
It was recombined as Suggrundus waitakiensis by Schwarzhans (2019).
