Taxonomy
Pecten magnolia was named by Conrad (1857).

It was recombined as Pecten (Lyropecten) magnolia by Arnold (1906), Loel and Corey (1932); it was synonymized subjectively with Pecten (Lyropecten) jeffersonius by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Macrochlamis magnolia by Moore (1984), Smith (1991).
