Orthis subjugata was named by Hall (1847). Its type specimen is AMNH 30290 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was synonymized subjectively with Hebertella occidentalis by Walker (1982); it was recombined as Hebertella subjugata by Wright and Stigall (2013).

Shell, much wider than long; ventral and dorsal valves inflated, unequally biconvex with steep dorsal valve lacking a medial depression; cardinal extremities rounded; sulcus deep, marked by many (≥17) fine costae between inflection points; ventral interarea small, nearly catacline; delthyrial angle wide (≥40˚); dorsal and ventral umbos remaining proximal to the hinge line. |
