Diagnosis
Reference | Diagnosis | |
---|---|---|
I. J. Maniel et al. 2021 | Elkanemys pritchardi can be diagnosed as a pelomedusoids pleurodira by the suturing of the pelvic girdle to the shell, and the presence of rounded and equidimensional mesoplastra, as a bothremydidae by an anterior plastral lobe particularly wide at its base. It can be considered as a representative of the Cearachelyini tribe based on the presence of a 6-sided first neural with short posterolateral margins, a second neural bone 4-sided shaped, and a neural serie completeness at least until the eighth costals. Elkanemys differs from Cearachelys by the axillary buttresses extended over the second peripheral bone. The pectoral-abdominal sulcus does not enter on mesoplastral bones distinguishes it from Cerachelys placidoi and AMNH 30551. It differs from AMNH 30550 by the presence of at least seven neurals and an iliac scars that extend only over eight costal. Finally, Elkanemys pritchardi differs from both AMNH 30550 and 30551 by having a rectangular pygal bone against the subtrapezoidal pygal exhibits by them. |
