Apogon moyesi was named by Steurbaut (1982). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Peyrère (=Peyrehorade) marls, which is in a Chattian estuary/bay marl in the Marnes de Saint-Etienne-d’Orthe Formation of France.
