Taxonomy
Modiolus lawsoni was named by Nelson (1925). Its type specimen is UC 30651, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. 4004, Simi Hills, which is in a Thanetian marine siliciclastic in the Santa Susana Formation of California.
It was recombined as Brachidontes lawsoni by Compton (1944), Smith (1975); it was recombined as Brachidontes (Brachidontes) lawsoni by Moore (1983).
