Taxonomy
Ostrea wiedeyi was named by Hertlein (1928). Its type specimen is CAS 4129, a valve, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS 1154, San Augustin Canyon, Santa Rosa Island, which is in a Miocene coastal sandstone/shale in the Vaqueros Formation of California.
It was recombined as Pycnodonte (Pycnodonte) wiedeyi by Moore (1987).
