Taxonomy
Ostrea venturana was named by Loel and Corey (1932). Its type specimen is UCMP 31751 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. 10035, Coyote Creek, which is in a Miocene coastal horizon in the Vaqueros Formation of California.
It was recombined as Ostreola venturana by Moore (1987).
