Taxonomy
Ostrea titan subtitan was named by Loel and Corey (1932). Its type specimen is UCMP 31750 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. A326, San Antonio Creek Canyon, which is in a Miocene coastal sandstone in the Vaqueros Formation of California.
It was recombined as Striostrea subtitan by Moore (1987).
