Taxonomy
Ostrea englekyi was named by Hertlein (1928). Its type specimen is CAS 4116 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS 1156, San Augustin Canyon, Santa Rosa Island, which is in a Miocene coastal sandstone/shale in the Vaqueros Formation of California.
It was recombined as Crassostrea englekyi by Moore (1987).
