Taxonomy
Aporrhais californica was named by Gabb (1864). Its type specimen is UCLA 28625 and 28626 (hypotypes) and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Arrhoges californica by Stewart (1927); it was recombined as Anchura (Arrhoges) californica by Anderson (1958); it was recombined as Arrhoges californicus by Murphy and Rodda (1960); it was recombined as Arrhoges (Latiala) californicus by Popenoe (1983); it was recombined as Latiala californica by Saul (1998).
