Taxonomy
Aporrhais californica was named by Gabb (1864). Its type specimen is UCLA 28625 and 28626 (hypotypes) and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Arrhoges californica by Stewart (1927); it was recombined as Anchura (Arrhoges) californica by Anderson (1958); it was recombined as Arrhoges californicus by Murphy and Rodda (1960); it was recombined as Arrhoges (Latiala) californicus by Popenoe (1983); it was recombined as Latiala californica by Saul (1998).

L. R. Saul 1998A small Latiala in which axial sculpture of spire consists of fine, closely spaced, almost sigmoid ribs. Sculpture of body whorl of three to four strong, short ribs, present only on dorsal side, nodular at the shoulder.
