Taxonomy
Belemnites quadratus was named by Blainville (1827) [Often considered to be "DeFrance in de Blainville" however the wording of the OD indicates that de Blainville considered the name was his].

It was recombined as Belemnitella quadrata by von der Marck (1858); it was recombined as Gonioteuthis quadratus by Douville (1879).
