Taxonomy
Pleurotoma (Drillia) montereyensis was named by Stearns (1871). It is extant.

It was recombined as Drillia montereyensis by Tryon (1884); it was recombined as Crassispira montereyensis by Dall (1921); it was recombined as Clavus (Crassispira) montereyensis by Grant, IV and Gale (1931), Willett (1937); it was recombined as Pilsbryspira montereyensis by Hendy (2021).
