Nassa cerritensis was named by Arnold (1903).

It was recombined as Alectrion cerritensis by Dall (1917); it was recombined as Schizopyga cerritensis by Dall (1921); it was recombined as Alectrion (Schizopyga) cerritensis by Oldroyd (1927); it was recombined as Nassarius (Schizopyga) cerritensis by Grant, IV and Gale (1931), Willett (1937); it was recombined as Caesia cerritensis by Hendy (2021).
