Taxonomy

Melanella (Balcis) macra was named by Bartsch (1917). It is extant.

It was recombined as Vitreolina macra by Hendy (2021).

Synonyms

Melanella (Balcis) prefalcata was named by Bartsch (1917). Its type specimen is USNM 215774, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Deadman Island area - Lower San Pedro Series (1900s-1950s) [San Pedro Sand], which is in a Pleistocene coastal sandstone in the San Pedro Sand Formation of California.

It was synonymized subjectively with Vitreolina macra by Hendy (2021).
Balcis (Vitreolina) obstipa was named by Berry (1954). It is extant.
