Taxonomy
Cuneopsis giganteus was named by Mongin (1963) ["L'holotype (no 1, TRPG) sera déposé dans les collections du C. E. A. (Commissariat à l'énergie atomique), groupement Afrique-Madagascar."]. Its type specimen is TRPG no. 1 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 12 km east of In Abangarit, which is in a Berriasian/Valanginian terrestrial conglomerate/claystone in the Irhazer Shales Formation of Niger.
