Taxonomy

Mangelia hexagona was named by Gabb (1865). It is extant.

It was recombined as Mangilia hexagona by Moody (1916) and Soper and Grant (1932); it was recombined as Mangelia (Mangelia) hexagona by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Cytharella hexagona by Kanakoff and Emerson (1959); it was recombined as Agathotoma hexagon by Hall (2002); it was recombined as Ithycythara hexagona by Hendy (2021).

Synonyms

Mangilia (Cythara) branneri was named by Arnold (1903). It is extant. Its type specimen is USNM 333134, a shell. Its type locality is Deadman Island area - Lower San Pedro Series (1900s-1950s) [San Pedro Sand], which is in a Pleistocene coastal sandstone in the San Pedro Sand Formation of California.

It was recombined as Cytharella branneri by Oldroyd (1925); it was synonymized subjectively with Mangelia (Mangelia) hexagona by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Mangelia branneri by Hendy (2021).
Cytharella (Agathotoma) quentinensis was named by Dall (1921). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Agathotoma quentinensis by Dall (1925); it was recombined as Cytharella quentenensis by Jordan (1926); it was synonymized subjectively with Mangelia (Mangelia) hexagona by Grant and IV and Gale (1931).
