Plectambonites aequistriatus was named by Willard (1928).

It was recombined as Sowerbyella acquistriata by Cooper and Prouty (1943); it was recombined as Sowerbyella aequistriata by Prouty (1946); it was recombined as Sowerbyella (Sowerbyella) aequistriatus by Cocks and Rong (1989).
