Hispaniastraea murciana was named by Turnsek et al. (1975). Its type locality is Zarcilla de Ramos reef, which is in a Pliensbachian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in Spain.
It was recombined as Chaetetes (Pseudoseptifer) murciana by Beauvais (1980).
