Rhynchonella arolica was named by Oppel (1865). It is the type species of Lacunosella, Lacunosella (Lacunosella).
It was recombined as Stolmorhynchia arolica by Buckman (1917); it was recombined as Lacunosella arolica by Childs (1969); it was recombined as Lacunosella (Lacunosella) arolica by Mahboubi et al. (2021).
