Taxonomy
Acanthoceras lecontei was named by Anderson (1958). Its type specimen is UCMP 32858, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. A-3823, One mile SE of Crockett, which is in a Cenomanian marine claystone in the Great Valley Series Formation of California.
It was recombined as Mantelliceras lecontei by Matsumoto (1960).
