Zaher et al. 2021 Differs from all other caenophidian families by the following combination of characters: prezygapophyseal processes well developed, parazygosphenal foramina present (although not in all vertebrae), high neural spines in mid- and posterior trunk vertebrae with thin anterior and slightly laterally expanded posterior margins in dorsal view, neural spines invading the zygosphenal tectum, para- and diapophyseal areas distinct, hypapophyses present in anterior trunk vertebrae and absent in mid- and posterior trunk vertebrae, caudal vertebrae with expanded laminar
haemapophyses, cotyle depressed.
