Acanthoceras milletianum plesiotypica was named by Fritel (1906). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Hypacanthoplites plesiotypicus by Szives (2007), Latil and Jaillard (2023) and Lehmann and Bayliss (2024).
