Eobasileus galeatus was named by Cope (1873).
It was recombined as Loxalophodon galeatus by Cope (1874) and Osborn (1881); it was recombined as Tinoceras galeatum by Marsh (1885), Hay (1902); it was considered a nomen dubium by Wheeler (1961); it was synonymized subjectively with Eobasileus cornutus by Turnbull (1972).
