Braccohaplolepis fenestrata was named by Elliott (2018). Its type specimen is GLAHM 152857, a partial skull (Skull roof), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Ardenrigg No. 6 Mine, which is in a Westphalian A fluvial-deltaic shale/coal in the Scottish Lower Coal Measures Formation of the United Kingdom.
