Palaeolyngbya elongata was named by Mandal and Maithy (1984). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is East of Baraud Village, which is in a Statherian shallow subtidal limestone in the Kushalgarh Formation of India.
