Taxonomy
Nanopus quadratus was named by Matthew (1904). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a trace fossil. It is the type species of Nasopus.

It was recombined as Dromillopus quadratus by Hay (1930); it was recombined as Anthichnium quadratum by Haubold (1971).
