Taxonomy
Choanites subrotundus was named by Mantell (1822). It is not extant. It is the type species of Choanites, Synolynthia.

It was recombined as Synolynthia subrotundus by Pomel (1872); it was recombined as Camerospongia (Synolynthia) subrotundus by Reid (2004).
