Asterospongia globosa was named by Roemer (1864). It is not extant. It is the type species of Cryptodesma, Asteropagia.
It was recombined as Asteropagia globosa by Pomel (1872); it was recombined as Cryptodesma globosa by Finks et al. (2004).
