Polygnathus asymmetrica ovalis was named by Ziegler and Klapper (1964) [= Polygnathus dubia dubia: Ziegler, 1958, pl. 1, figs. 1, 2, and 7 (only).
= Polygnathus asymmetricus unilabius: Mouravieff, 1982, pl. 7, fig.10.
= Mesotaxis asymmetrica: Bardashev, 1992, pl. 10, figs. 8 and 9 (only).
= Polygnathus asymmetricus asymmetricus: Perri and Spalletta, 1980, p. 304, pl. 6, fig. 4.]. Its type specimen is Zi 1958/1, a set of teeth, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Mesotaxis ovalis by Klapper (1988); it was recombined as Klapperina ovalis by Ovnatanova and Kononova (2001); it was recombined as Zieglerina ovalis by Bardashev and Bardasheva (2012), Ovnatanova et al. (2017).

Median ridge straight, composed of coarse nodes, and reach- ing posterior end of platform. Free blade denticulate and half or one-third of platform length. Troughs nar- row, shallow, and well pronounced only in anterior part of platform. Platform surface uniformly covered with fine and medium-sized nodes sometimes arranged in fine, discontinuous radial ridges.
