Graptolithus testis was named by Barrande (1859).

It was recombined as Monograptus (Testograptus) testis by Urbanek and Teller (1974); it was recombined as Monograptus testis by Lenz (1990); it was recombined as Testograptus testis by Pribyl (1967) and Lenz and Kozłowska (2006).
