Taxonomy
Lathamoserpens sigel was named by Waggoner and Hagadorn (2005). Its type specimen is LACMIP 12862 and is a compression fossil. Its type locality is southern Marble Mountains, near Cadiz, which is in a Dyeran marine shale/sandstone in the Latham Formation of California. It is the type species of Lathamoserpens.
