Taxonomy
Pyropsis aldersoni was named by Squires (2011). Its type specimen is LACMIP 13721 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is LACMIP loc. 26967, Garapito Creek, which is in a Coniacian offshore sandstone in the Tuna Canyon Formation of California.
